Melody Emi Brunton

Working from a small studio on Dharawal Land, Melody explores the textural expression of clay, creating works that embody its natural qualities. The interplay between the elements and the human hand in ceramics reflects a balance between people and the earth, a tacit dialogue between maker and material.
Her work is also influenced by her Japanese cultural background, extending from her maternal side of the family. The philosophy of honouring handmade wares—valuing their quiet beauty and everyday function—resonates deeply in her practice. She sees ceramics as a way to connect with tradition while embracing experimentation, allowing process and material to shape the outcome rather than forcing control.
Melody’s pieces exist at the intersection of function and sculpture, with a focus on vessels that invite both use and contemplation. She embraces the unseen processes that shape each piece—from the way glazes melt and flow in the kiln to the marks left behind by flame and firing. These organic transformations highlight the material’s journey, making each work a reflection of time, movement, and impermanence.
